Puzzle Cube Project
Overview Problem Identification Conceptualization Introduction to handout Conceptualization Masking tape mock-ups Refinement of Preliminary Ideas Multi-view Drawings Development & Implementation Prototype Optimization Solid Modeling Presentation Portfolio
Problem Identification You will be making a puzzle that will form a cube when assembled Puzzle Cube must have at least 5 parts
Problem Identification Parts are made from 3/4” wood cubes No parts can be repeated Each part can be made from 3, 4, 5, or 6 wood cubes Some of the parts must interlock
Conceptualization You will use masking tape and your wood blocks to make a mock-up model You will draw each of part from your masking tape mock-up on its own sheet of Multi-view paper
Refinement of Ideas You will use a decision matrix to evaluate you solution based on # of interlocking parts # of ways to solve the puzzle Relative puzzle difficulty
Conceptualization You will make TWO MORE masking tape mock-ups and draw each their parts on multi-view paper
Development & Implementation Once you have picked the best solution, you will neatly glue your blocks together Each part will be colored with markers
Optimization You will model each part of your final solution using AutoDesk Inventor You will create and engineering drawing for each part
Optimization You will assemble each of the part files You will create an exploded view
Presentation You will be given a binder to compile all of you work as you complete it It should contain section dividers for each step of the design process
