People who live in an area where threatening NATURAL events (like earthquakes or floods) often take place are AT RISK from a HAZARD

Move people AWAY from the dangerous area and there is no longer any hazard risk! This is one of the simplest ways to save lives!

NO! No-one lives there, so no one is at RISK. There is NO HAZARD. Volcanoes on Mars NO! No-one lives there, so no one is at RISK. There is NO HAZARD.

Hurricanes in the Caribbean YES! People living in places like Jamaica are at risk. There is a HAZARD here.

Earthquakes in California YES! Many people live in Los Angeles and they are at risk. There is a MAJOR HAZARD here.

Snowstorms in the middle of Antarctica NO! No-one lives there, so no one is at RISK. There is NO HAZARD.
