Copyright © 2018 Open Geospatial Consortium Pick 1 idea – Max 2 Pick 1 idea per presentation. Break it down, explain it, share it and communicate well what you want your audience to do in response and why. Repeat your idea Photo by Chris Knight on Unsplash Copyright © 2018 Open Geospatial Consortium

Not everyone speaks your language Never assume someone understands the acronyms – spell them out Slow down Read people’s faces. Do they look confused? If they do ask them? If your audience does not understand you then they won’t take action or remember what you said. Photo by Markus Spiske on Unsplash Copyright © 2018 Open Geospatial Consortium

Text – less is more, font size people You want your slides to be engaging and memorable. You also want people to listen to you. If your slide is full of small text people will stop listening to you to try and read what is on the screen. Keep details to the notes section of your powerpoint – this is a great place to explain in more details Photo by Amador Loureiro on Unsplash Copyright © 2018 Open Geospatial Consortium

Copyright © 2018 Open Geospatial Consortium People are visual It is estimated that about 65% of the global population are visual learners. 30% are auditory learners and 5% are kinesthetic If you don’t have your own graphics to help illustrate your point, look on websites like Unsplash for free images (please always use credits) Make sure that any image you use that you credit where it is from and if it can be reused and how. Understand your audience Be relatable Be authentic Be enthusiastic Understand your audience, (culture is a challenge - understand your audience, be yourself,) Photo by Krists Luhaers on Unsplash Copyright © 2018 Open Geospatial Consortium

Practice makes perfect Build your confidence with practice (timing) Watch others great presentation Photo by NeONBRAND on Unsplash Copyright © 2018 Open Geospatial Consortium

Copyright © 2018 Open Geospatial Consortium Time, Time, Time Time, time, time (20mins is perfect, this is the attention span of an adult) Leave time for questions Be on time – there are other presenters and you will lose your audience’s attention if you go for too long and annoy other presenters if they do not get enough time because of your presentation Usually about 1 min per slide is a good rule Photo by Icons8 team on Unsplash Copyright © 2018 Open Geospatial Consortium
