Sir, what do I need to know for the exam? Do we know what you need to study for the exam? Any questions from Bill’s class? He’s the grammar king! Let’s look at the website. You’re going to get your marks so far. Grade 10 English will be difficult. I am not saying you cannot do it, but you will have to work hard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zm3Jq4JYTEI

Point; Explanation; Example; To know what a two-point paragraph is. To understand how to organize and implement the conventions of a two-point paragraph to answer the paragraph questions about the short story. To be able to analyze the different parts of Nought and Crosses in the form of a two-point paragraph and using the rubric as a guide. Point; Explanation; Example;

To know what a two-point paragraph is. Topic Sentence with 2 points Point 1 Explanation Point 2 Concluding sentence You must make a clear reference to the book Noughts and Crosses. The strongest explanations will have examples from the book. You will not have your books with you, but you can describe the part of the book that will support your point. Point; Explanation; Example;

An example two-point paragraph: “Ride the Rocket” is a famous slogan that the Toronto Transit commission has used for years. The TTC these days has many serious problems they need to improve but the two biggest are the fare costs and the schedule. First, the TTC costs are constantly rising. It will soon cost more than $3.00 for a single trip on the TTC. It does not matter if you are going 500 metres or 30 kilometers: the price is the same. The TTC should put a system in place so people are charged based on distance. Second, the TTC is very inconsistent. Bus schedules do not mean anything and it is not uncommon to have to wait an extra 30 minutes in the winter for your bus. The TTC should try to plan better or get the city to use dedicated bus lanes. I love Toronto, but I do not love waiting outside in the cold for 40 minutes. If they are not going to fix the problems, the TTC should change their slogan to “Ride the Turtle”.

Review the rubric; these questions will not be on the exam! To understand how to organize and implement the conventions of a two-point paragraph to answer the paragraph questions about the short story. To be able to analyze the different parts of the short story in the form of a two-point paragraph and using the rubric as a guide. In your teams, you will write a group paragraph on ONE of these questions. (5-9 sentences) Choose a theme from Noughts and Crosses. Give two examples from the novella that develop that theme. Do you think that there will ever be peace in the world of Noughts and Crosses. Give two reasons why or why not? Speaker Writer Supporter Manager Leader Review the rubric; these questions will not be on the exam! Point; Explanation; Example;

Review We are going to continue the two-point paragraph. We are going to review the different parts of the exam. Then you will independently study for the exam. MINDS-ON ACTIVITY- What will the world be like in the future. What do you think the world will be like? Discuss in your groups?

Point; Explanation; Example; Let’s see what people wrote yesterday. Let’s give them a grade. Knowledge Thinking Application Communication. Do people need more time to improve your answers? Choose a theme from Noughts and Crosses. Give two examples from the novella that develop that theme. Do you think that there will ever be peace in the world of Noughts and Crosses. Give two reasons why or why not? Point; Explanation; Example;
