Figure 1 A schema representing the relationships between current CB banks. The banks contained within the intersecting circles will be searched by virtue of performing a search of the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), Netcord, and the NMDP Cooperative Registries (“Cooperative”), respectively. The black rectangle represents the banks that can be seen by performing a search of bone marrow donors worldwide (BMDW). Units in Swedcord and AsiaCORD were not listed in BMDW as of 4/08. The schema represents the complexity of CB searches. Creating a centralized search mechanism so that the global CB inventory can be easily accessed by transplant centers should be a priority.
