Property #1: Water is Polar POLARITY – It has area with a slight positive charge, and an area with a slight negative charge.
Polarity This polarity gives us the property of Hydrogen Bonding.
Polarity Hydrogen Bonding allows one water molecule to “stick” to another water molecule.
Cohesion is the ability for water molecules to stick to themselves Property #2: Cohesion Cohesion is the ability for water molecules to stick to themselves Beads of Water

Property #4: Capillary action Capillary action is one of the forces that draw water out of the roots of a plant and up into its stems and leaves. Cohesion holds the column of water together as it rises.
Property #5: Surface tension Water has the ability to support small objects. The hydrogen bonds between neighboring molecules cause a film to develop at the surface.
Property #6: A Great Solvent Remember… A solvent has the ability to dissolve other materials Water is a solvent for many things For example: The liquid part of your blood is 95% water Some items, such as fats and oils DO NOT dissolve in water.
