Identifying possible priorities and strategies ENVISIONING THE FUTURE OF THE GLOBAL CAPACITY-BUILDING PROGRAMME AND ITS FACILITATORS’ NETWORK Bangkok — THAILAND 6 to 9 March 2017

Recap Facilitators’ roles have expanded: Advising Providing content Mediating Advocacy Raises issues related to framing of the facilitators’ role (identity) Facilitators becoming ‘implementation agents’ for the Convention

Recap Benefits and challenges of facilitators working in their own countries, within their region and across regions Network creating a narrative and a pool of experiences, knowledge and skills on implementing the Convention Ripple effect of CAP (networks creating new networks)

Recap How much framing/structuring do we need for facilitators and the network? How can we identify structures to ensure training of trainers activities at national level are replicated independently and sustainably

Ways forward for the CB Programme Institutional capacity building Build institutional understanding of safeguarding ICH and sustainable development (avoid imposing concepts/jargon on communities) Identify suitable institutional partners to sustain the CAP Programme in countries Develop monitoring and evaluation mechanisms - Explore ways for the CAP Programme to address new challenges (post-) emergencies natural disasters, conflicts, long-and short-term etc.)

Ways forward for the CB Programme Further expand the CAP Programme thematically to address challenges of implementation Enhance appeal/formats of training materials notably for youth Develop guidance notes approach for specific topics - Explore ways for the CAP Programme to address new challenges (post-) emergencies natural disasters, conflicts, long-and short-term etc.)

Ways forward for the network Build further on the collective skills and experience of the network Group facilitators’ skills/competencies around key themes Adapt training activities for network members to address the expanding themes and roles (thematic and pedagogic)

Ways forward for the network Seek partnerships, networks etc. to expand and sustain the CAP Programme Explore a framework for the network reflecting new developments and expanded facilitators’ roles Strengthen training-of-trainers activities at the national level with a view to run the Programme independently
