What is an Effective Local Association What is an Effective Local Association? (Summer Leadership Academy 2018) Star Orullian, Granite Wendy Wilson, Ogden Karen Pedersen, Canyons Theresa Stanton, Northern

How do you know if your Association is Effective? Is your membership growing? Are your elections contested races? Do you have good attendance at meetings? Do members turn out when asked? Do you have early, mid and late career educators involved in your Association? ASSESSING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF YOUR LOCAL - Handout Have each person in attendance take the time to fill out the “ASSESSING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF YOUR ASSOCIATION. Team members will pass out the handout once Theresa introduces the handout. Once the handout is filled out, Theresa will encourage attendees to talk to their local presidents and try to focus on a couple of areas for next school year.

Are your Association Representatives Effective? Talk at your tables about “What makes an Effective AR?” Have someone write down the ideas so they can be shared out. What data can you use to help you determine AR effectiveness? Wendy will introduce this concept. Wendy will have the attendees do table talks and chart their responses. Have each person in attendance take the time to fill out the “Are your Association Reps Effective? Handout.

Data-Driven Decision Making Who should be the AR in each building? Are you measuring ROI? (Return on Investment) Where do you spend the most money in your budget? Is the membership line item the largest value? Star will do this part of the presentation.

Do you know your buildings? Staff Identification Activity   Fall activity to be completed at an Association Building Leader meeting. Each Association Building Leader should bring two copies of their staff roster. The Association ABL’s will highlight their staff lists in the following manner: *Yellow – highlight those members on your staff that are passionate about politics. *Pink – highlight those members that are highly respected by staff. *Blue – highlight those members that are experts on the standards and curriculum. *Green – highlight those members that are doers – they just always get things done. *Orange – highlight those members that are the glue that hold your staff together – they are fun, they believe the staff is family, they are cohesive… *Circle in pencil/pen – those members you simply do not know, and make a commitment to talk to each of them. Do you know your buildings? Power Mapping your Building! What is Power Mapping? Canyons uses BAT Teams (Building Association Teams) Karen will walk the attendees through how Canyons organizes their buildings to grow capacity and share the workload with others in each school.
