Session 2: Learning at school Time: 10:00 - 10:50 am Objectives Identifying the rhetorical structures of the texts Finding out specific information from the text and synthesizing it in the discussion reflecting your study problems practicing your critical thinking skill Tasks 4. How is the text structured? 5. What are your study problems? 6. Getting more familiar with the text

Task 4: How is the text structured? Text: Common study problems - and solutions Structure: Para 1(present problems) - Para 2 (offer solutions) Para 3(present problems) - Para 4 (offer solutions) Para 5 (present problems) - Para 6 (offer solutions) Para 7 (present problems) - Para 8 (offer solutions) (Please see the text and p9 of your workbook for details)

Task 6: Getting more familiar with the text Students master information by discovering it for themselves. Teachers do not actually teach, simply help students learn. Learning takes place through a process of challenging old ideas and asking questions. What examples did the guest speaker give about what is good manners in the west is not in China and vice versa? (Chinese students unwilling to address the Western teachers on the first name basis; saying “what” when failing to understand the speakers also causes misunderstanding. )
