What is a mineral? A mineral is a naturally formed, inorganic solid that has a definite crystalline structure. Inorganic means that they are not made.
Minerals That compose the Earth’s Crust. What is a mineral? Is it inorganic? Nothing alive or alive at one time qualifies. Does it occur naturally? Nothing.

Mineral Classification. There are over 3,000 minerals but only 30 are common. To keep them organized, they are classified into groups based on chemical.
Classification of minerals Systematic classification of minerals is based on the chemical composition of the mineral.

6th grade warm ups week of 1-1-18

Monday(Mon.) 1-1-18 New Years Day

Tuesday(Tues.)1-2-18 Teacher work day

Wednesday(Wed.) 1-3-18 WU: How are mineral classified and what are the two groups of minerals? Ans: Mineral are classified by their chemical composition. The two main groups are silicate and nonsilicate minerals.

Thursday (Thurs.) 1-4-18 WU: What are silicate minerals? Ans: 1:Silicate minerals are minerals that contain a combination of Silicon and Oxygen, which are the two most common minerals in the Earth’s crust. 2: They make up 90% of the Earth’s crust.

Friday (Fri.) 1-5-18 WU: What are nonsilicate minerals? Ans: 1: Nonsilicate minerals make up the rest of the Earth’s crust and do not contain Silicon or Oxygen. 2:They often contain the elements carbon, fluorine and sulfur.
