Collaboration Black swans GC lead Black Swans – ‘the loss events that came out of nowhere’ ‘That could never happen’ Huge impact, highly improbable events Depends on the observer. For example, what may be a black swan surprise for a turkey is not a black swan surprise to its butcher Taleb 2007 Collaboration

Black swans are not what you think GC lead Black Swans – ‘the loss events that came out of nowhere’ ‘That could never happen’ Huge impact, highly improbable events Depends on the observer. For example, what may be a black swan surprise for a turkey is not a black swan surprise to its butcher Taleb 2007 Collaboration

Where do we need to go next? A potential black swan? System faults and failures… GB lead New technology coming on board. The railway today may be safe. The railway of tomorrow is a different railway. Complex risks need to be managed, and addressed further back in the supply chain. System Faults can be caused by software and cyber risks and their convergance. We don’t have good visibility? Our our tools good enough? Do we understand the problems well enough? Collaboration

Where do we need to go next? Quantitative leading indicators Revisit risks and maturity Wellbeing to get more attention – the emotional human and financial cases for doing so are overwhelming Attention to job design / job aids Look for signals in the noise Better and easier ways to collaborate more and more often – create an industry Learning Legacy GC / GB joint?
