Business Case 24 Jan 2017 How many of you have ever created a business case? How was the process?

Business Case What is a business case? A justification for a proposed project or undertaking on the basis of its expected benefit to the organization Why do you develop a business case? The purpose of the business case is communication. Therefore, each section should be written in the jargon of the intended audience. A Business case should only contain enough information to help decision making.

Business Case The business case brings together the benefits, disadvantages, costs, and risks of the current situation and future vision so that management can decide if the project should go ahead. If a project is worth doing you need to answer 4 simple questions: What is the goal? What’s stopping you from reaching the goal? How much change is needed to meet the goal? Are you certain this will meet the goal? As a table discuss the current business cases at your Garrison. How long have they been in place? Are they effective? Do you have evidence to support or refute?

Business Case Make it interesting, clear and concise Eliminate conjecture and minimize jargon Describe your vision of the future Demonstrate the value and benefits the project brings to the Garrison Utilize team members from other functions (i.e. FM, HR) to contribute to the development

Building the Business Case The Executive Summary The executive summary is the first section of the business case and the last written. It is a short summary of the entire business case. It succinctly conveys vital information about the project and communicates the entire story to the reader. First impressions are important. Get this right! BLUF.

Building the Business Case 2. Description of Service This section of your business plan provides a high-level review of the different elements of your Garrison. This is akin to an extended elevator pitch and can help the readers and approving official quickly understand the goal of your program and its unique proposition. Operational Capacity/Spaces Delivered How many will this impact? 3. # of children enrolled, impact on the program, .

Building the Business Case 4. Financial Impact/Considerations The purpose of a financial appraisal is to: Identify the financial implications for the project Allow comparison of project costs against the forecast benefits Ensure the project is affordable; ensure every cost associated with the project is considered Assess value for money, and Predict cash flow 4. Increased enrollment, customer satisfaction goal met,

Building the Business Case 5. Market Analysis Demographics, Potential customers, Competition, Pricing. 6. Evaluation of Success How are you going to measure success. 7. Conclusion and Recommendation
