The Heart is the Heart of Marriage

Matthew 19:3-8 Some Pharisees came to Him to test Him. They asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?”

Matthew 19:3-8 “Haven’t you read,” He replied, “that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female…”

Matthew 19:3-8 “…And said, `For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and the two will become one flesh?’

Matthew 19:3-8 “…So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together let no one separate.”

Matthew 19:3-8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.”

“I am sorry. I was wrong. Please forgive me.” Caring for One Another 5. Remember, the only way out is through. 6. The answer will seem good to the Holy Spirit and to you. 7. Use the 9 words that can heal any marriage. “I am sorry. I was wrong. Please forgive me.”

If you keep your vows, they’ll keep you 1. Choose to stay married for the rest of your life.

If you keep your vows, they’ll keep you 2. Make your relationship with your spouse your top priority (after Jesus Christ).

If you keep your vows, they’ll keep you 3. Act out love to experience the feelings of love.

If you keep your vows, they’ll keep you 4. Trust that God has a plan and that it works.

How God Heals our Damaged Hearts

A Damaged Heart A heart that has been damaged by sin and pain that is unable to give and receive love.

The Symptoms 1. Playing the sculptor. 2. Living with perpetual regret. 3. Using criticism and sarcasm (anger with a smile). 4. Emotional window-shopping. 5. Leveraging your love.

Three Obvious Signs 1. Misery & hopelessness. 2. Obvious lack of love and affection. 3. Detachment and distance.
