TLC 3-Ipads and Technology

My target was to use Edmodo as a method of setting homework and also to use technology more in my own lessons and perhaps cover lessons. My Target

What did I do to work towards my target? Attempted to set a homework project over Edmodo with my Year 8 Art class. I put up the homework, gave them all the code and also uploaded a help sheet to go with their project if they got stuck. What did I do to work towards my target?

What did I do towards my target? In first week of year 7s getting iPads, I got them to consolidate their information on different time periods in an app of their choice-suggesting simple ones like Pic Collage, Notes and Educreations. These girls decided that Pic Collage would be easier to use and best for them. These boys felt that Pages was best for them. What did I do towards my target?

What did I do towards my target? After half term, as the Year 7s got used to the iPads, as a way of learning new info about The Battle of Hastings, we asked them to research on iPads. However, we gave them little sub-headings to structure their research. What did I do towards my target?

There were a few problems with using the iPads in the Year 7 History class as they had only just got the iPads and were not entirely sure what certain apps did or how to use them. However, we got past this-used the easier apps and tried next time to use the iPads as a research tool instead until they’re more comfortable. In relation to using Edmodo, this went well and the students understood how to use it. Any problems or issues?

Any teaching/behavioural strategies to enable success? Creating time in the lesson for students to join the Edmodo group to ensure they joined. Structuring research in KS3 using sub-headings so they collect the right level of information. Any teaching/behavioural strategies to enable success?

How has this helped your personal development? I believe by using iPads more in KS3 lessons it has allowed me to make my lessons more interactive and helped to encourage independent learning in my lessons. How has this helped your personal development?

How will you now progress your use of iPads and technology? I will try to use more technology in my art lessons by creating QR codes that link to instruction videos so that kids can go at their own pace. I will try to encourage more use of iPads with my year 7 History lessons and attempt to get them used to certain apps. How will you now progress your use of iPads and technology?
