Essential Question: What is work (in physics)?
Work. Work – is a quantity that exist whenever a force acting upon an object causes a displacement. Displacement – a vector quantity, which refers to.
Energy and Work. Energy Energy is the ability to change or cause change. If something has no energy, there can be no change.

Work.
Work done is the energy transferred when a force moves an object over a distance. Since work is energy transferred, the unit for work is the joule (J).
Work-Energy Theorem Work : W net = F net d However, we know F net = ma So work gives an object some acceleration Acceleration means the velocity changes.
Work = Force x Distance W= F x d Work is a force exerted across a distance ! A transfer of energy!
Energy and Work Part 2. What is Work Work is the transfer of energy through motion –When force acts over a distance in the direction of an object’s motion.
Calculating Work. Work = force x distance W=f x d Unit of Measurement for Work is Joules Unit of Measurement for Force is Newtons Unit of Measurement.
PHYSICS – Work and Power. LEARNING OBJECTIVES Work Core Demonstrate understanding that work done = energy transferred Relate (without calculation)
Understanding and Calculating Work Work - When a force acts on an object and causes it to move through a distance, energy is transferred and work is done.

In this section you will use the equation to calculate work done use the equation to calculate kinetic energy solve simple energy interchange problems.
Work  Work occurs when: 1.An object moves when a force is applied 2.The direction of the objects motion is the same as the direction of the force Formula:

Work – Learning Outcomes Define work and give its unit. Solve problems about work. Demonstrate work being done. Give examples of work being done.

Work Work is done on an object when a force moves it in the direction of that force. Formula: 𝑊𝑜𝑟𝑘=𝐹𝑜𝑟𝑐𝑒×𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 Formula: 𝑊=𝐹×𝑠 Work is measured in joules (J).

Examples of Work Lifting something.

Examples of Work Pushing something.

Examples of Work Climbing something.

Work e.g. Find the work done when Sorcha pushes a shopping trolley with a force of 400 N a distance of 25 m. e.g. Rebecca wants to beat the current Olympic record for the snatch weightlift. She needs to lift at least 152 kg above her head in one fluid motion. How much work does she need to put in? e.g. How much work is required to accelerate a 1000 kg car from rest to 30 ms-1 in 10 seconds?
