About Me 1-3 Hello, I am Mr. Montijo and I’ve been a teacher for 7 years. I started my teaching career at Saint John’s Episcopal School in Chula Vista. For my 2nd year at St. Rita’s, I will be teaching junior high Social Studies and Religion. Before getting my start in education, I attended San Diego State University and graduated with a degree in Social Science with an emphasis in Single Subject Teaching.

About Me 2-3 While at SDSU, I worked part-time at the YMCA and at Mater Dei coaching football. I learned a lot from these jobs and I adopted four character values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. These values are something I do not verbalize often, but try to show by example. I sincerely care for all my students and want them to excel. In return, I expect them to put forth effort in the classroom. I want my students to demonstrate that they are dependable and trustworthy. I demand that my students treat others as they would want to be treated and to value the worth of every person. Lastly, my students should always try to do what is right and to be accountable.

About Me 3-3 I am a proud product of a Catholic education. My parents sacrificed to send me to St. Rita’s and Marian Catholic High School. Seeing them sacrifice drove me to be a better student and an even better person. I am excited to return to St. Rita’s and I want to thank you all for your continued sacrifice.

Teaching Philosophy 1-2 Teaching is a process of installing the necessary skills required for life-long learning. A few examples are: study skills, reading comprehension, critical thinking, and team participation.

Teaching Philosophy 2-2 As a teacher, I will help in installing these necessary skills to everyone in my class. Their identity or their background does not matter; I care about helping my students gain these necessary skills. I run a student centered classroom by planning group discussions, debates, individual /group presentations and journals. I present students with the fundamentals of the subject, real world examples, and a collaborative forum for discussing relevant topics. From this, students will experience a practical application of learning.

Classroom Expectations 1-2 Please review the Handbook for information regarding classroom expectations, technology use, and proper uniform/uniform violations. Google classroom Syllabus
