VE DAY was on the 8th of May 1945 VE DAY was on the 8th of May 1945. The Axis surrendered because Hitler shot himself. The day was named Victory in Europe Day.

They called the day VE DAY because the Axis in Europe surrendered and Hitler shot himself also because it was victory for the Allies.

Hitler shot himself because he knew that he was not going to win the war and there was no place to hide and he didn’t want Stalin to capture him.

Germany felt like they had no leader and they had no plans so they had no choice but to surrender.

Yes, they were happy. They had nearly six years of bombing and fighting. A lot of their loved ones had died fighting. They had shortages of food and they just wanted to get on with their lives.
