Foreign bodies in ear

Foreign bodies in ear Objects inserted intentionally or unintentionally to the ear Foreign bodies enter while cleaning the ear, it can be insects, peas, beans, pebbles, toys and beads. Children's are more prone There will be no symptoms or severe symptoms Profound pain in most case and decrease hearing

Management Removing a foreign body from the external auditory canal is challenging Three standard methods Irrigation suction Instrumentation Contraindications – foreign vegetable bodies and insects tend to swell thus irrigation is contraindicated Mineral oil should be used instead- it will kill the inscect

Should not manage it in home because it can be dangerous in unskilled hands The object may be pushed completely into the bony portion of the canal, lacerate the skin and perforation of the tympanic membrane. In difficult cases – patient should be under general anesthesia in the operating room for extraction of the foreign bodies.
