Goal Setting the SMART way

Specific A specific goal has a much greater chance of being accomplished than a general goal. EXAMPLE:    A general goal would be, "Get in shape." But a specific goal would say, "Join a health club and workout 3 days a week."

Measurable To determine if your goal is measurable, ask questions such as, How much? How many? How will I know when it is accomplished? EXAMPLE: a goal that can’t be measured, “I will be nicer to my siblings.” A measurable goal, “I will spend 30 minutes a day helping my sister with her homework.”

Attainable When you list your goals you build your self-image. You see yourself as worthy of these goals, and develop the traits and personality that allow you to possess them.

Relevant Ask your self, will this goal make a positive difference in my life? Is this goal helping me progress? EXAMPLE: I will read 2 history books in the next month.

Time-bound With no time frame tied to it there's no sense of urgency. If you want to stop biting your nails, when do you want to stop by? "Someday" won't work. EXAMPLE: I will raise my grades by the end of the quarter.
