Presentation transcript:

Marcus Buckingham has presented a challenge to change the we think about Leadership, Managing and Sustained Individual Success. I would like to conduct a little exercise on CHANGE. I need a volunteer for the next step. I don’t usually volunteer until I know what is expected, so I will detail it for you. I want you to: read the list of words out loud, “List #1” from top to bottom, “List #2” from top to bottom as fast as possible I need to have someone time how long it takes?

List #1 List #2 Black Red Brown Blue Orange Green

How did you do? It went OK. How long did it take? You did real well with it. Lets do it again now that you are experienced with it. What were the instructions again? Wait a minute, slight change in instructions. I want you to: say the color of the word out loud, “List #1” from top to bottom, “List #2” from top to bottom as fast as possible

List #1 List #2 Black Red Brown Blue Orange Green

How did you do? Not quite as good as the first time when you got to List #2. We need to thank our volunteer for helping with this. In this exercise, we worked with the same materials both times, it was just one of the instructions that changed a little, but had an impact on result. In fact, the change was selected to have a big impact.
