Winning The War-Battles in N. Africa and Europe During the 1930’s The Axis Nations prepared for war Germany invaded Europe and Soviet Union Japan’s Army & Navy took Pacific region (including Philippines) U.S. and Allies needed time to strike back Late 1942, American forces joined Allies in N. Africa who were fighting German and Italian forces In 1943, Axis troops surrendered to Allies in N. Africa

Winning the War-Fighting in Italy A month later, Allies struck again-attacked Axis soldiers in Sicily Allies invaded Italy’s mainland while Germans retreated The Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American pilots, flew many successful missions over Italy Germany lost many troops fighting Soviet Union Soviet forces defeated Germans at the battle of STALINGRAD Soviets began to push the Germans west
