Warm-Up List EVERY stereotype about Asians you can think of.

More than just stereotypes… There is a long history of anti-Chinese sentiment and racism in the United States.

Yellow Terror Color metaphor for racism (based on the skin color of East Asians) Started in the late 19th century to represent racism against Chinese immigrants to the USA Later associated with the Japanese, especially after WW2 Eventually extended to all Asians living in America and represents: General racism Fear that Asians threatened white wages and standards of living Fear that Asians would take over and destroy America with their ways of life and values

Terms to Know Coolie: A label applied to a slave or unskilled manual laborer from Asia, particularly if they were from Southern China, the Indian subcontinent, the Philippines or Indonesia. Chink: A racial slur applied to Chinese or people of Chinese descent, specifically those with yellow skin and/or slanty eyes.
