Literary Terms Plot – the series of related events that make up a story; the structure of the story's action Plot Diagram - a visual representation of a story's timeline; a story map Exposition -story part that introduces the characters, setting, and general situation at the story's opening Central Conflict - the primary or main conflict that drives the action in a story

Literary Terms Continued… Rising Action - the part of the story where struggles take places; a series of events and building tension Climax - the event in the story when tension reaches its peak or when the plot turns in an important way Falling Action - the part of a story that examines the consequences of the climax; the winding- down action Resolution - how the story's central problem is solved; the conclusion or end
