Dr. Joe Chaudhuri – GP & Governing Body Member Health, Housing and Social Care Workshop - Welcome Dr. Joe Chaudhuri – GP & Governing Body Member

Introduction “Good health starts at home, and local authorities manage many of the important assets: the housing, the budget for aids and adaptations, local planning decisions, green spaces etc. Hence, local areas are encouraged to take a joined-up, place-based approach across housing, health and social care” – NHS England

Why housing is important to health Poor housing and deprivation are linked to ill health and increased risk of long term conditions and hospital admissions Poor housing is also linked to social isolation, particularly among vulnerable groups Improving the quality of housing has the potential to save the NHS and social care huge amounts

How housing can assist Enabling access to home interventions (social prescribing) Improving affordable warm homes (safe, warm housing) Improving suitability and accessibility (regular repairs, adaptations and handyperson services) Housing Support

Aims of the Workshop Understand the current status of health relating to housing in South Kent Coast Review what is currently in the system in terms of social care, housing and housing support, and health care Identify the challenges and existing gaps Implement changes to improve the health and wellbeing of tenants
