Properties of Rational Exponents
Rational Exponents When a base is raised to a rational exponent of the form 1/n we use the following definition: The denominator of the rational exponent.
Note that the denominator of the exponent becomes the index and the base becomes the radicand. Example Write an equivalent expression using radical.

3.2 (Green) Apply Properties of Rational Exponents

Vocabulary A radical with index n is in simplest form if the radicand has no perfect nth powers as factors and any denominator has been rationalized. Two radical expressions with the same index and radicand are like radicals. The expressions are called radical conjugates of each other

Example 1: Simplify the expression

Example 2: Simplify the expression

Example 3: Simplify the radical

Example 4: Simplify the expression

Example 5: Simplify the expression

Example 6: Perform the operation

Homework: P. 115 #1-33odd
