Observations of the Sky Tracking the cycle of the Year Writing in Science Assignment INSTRUCTIONS – GUIDELINES This is to be done in Pairs. (Of your Choice) Start on p467. Read the red box labeled – Writing in Science There are six major accomplishments tied to tracking the cycle of the year. As partners, choose one of the six accomplishments to focus on. Research specific information about the accomplishment you chose. (EX: facts, figures about the accomplishments & details of the person(s) that discovered and or created the structure for this accomplishment. – this will be Due by Fri 9/14. *Note – each student must complete their own research & document evidence of such research (web sites, books, etc.) to be turned in with the final product. On Friday together you both will write a conversation of a dialogue in which each of you discuss its importance on your lives. The key is you must do this as if you were from that time period & culture that made that discovery or structure. (One person writing the conversation, but both involved in the dialogue and content of the conversation. Due by Monday 9/17. On Monday 9/17, each pair of students will briefly state to the class what there conversation was and any interesting or significant facts about their accomplishment. This is very informal and should only take 1-2 minutes.

Chapter 12 – Earth, Moon and Sun CA Science Standards Focused on for this Assignment 8.4.e.- Students know the appearance, general composition, relative position and size, and motion of objects in the solar system, including planets, planetary satellites, comets, and asteroids. Specific Objective – What causes the cycle of seasons on Earth. Rubric Exepectations 4 Exceeds criteria by including dialogue that is historically correct and exceptionally well written. 3 Includes all criteria but does not go beyond requirements 2 Includes brief dialogue based on weak research 1 Is incomplete and inaccurate
