Gross Ozombutu Farm

Gross Ozombutu Farm is 5,146 hectares and has a main farm house, several ancillary buildings and ample water supply for the various game.

The Farmstead The main farmstead has a pretty setting in a bend of the Omatako River lined with huge trees. In the background one has the majestic Omatako mountains and the cone of the Kapwakaraberg rising over 200meters from the surrounding plain. The front garden leads out from a stoep onto a braai area and several palm trees. Beyond that is a large cement reservoir with cement steps leading up to it. This is used for swims for the family

Farm The property is blessed with an abundance of buildings, both well designed and in a good state of repair. Since the buildings were unoccupied for some time, paint and broom is needed to do some sprucing up. Maintenance in the veld is done on an ongoing basis. And therefore that component of the infrastructure is generally in a very good state of repair. That applies to the interior fences of the 17 camps, boundary fences, the water installations, dam walls and overflows and interior roads.

The existing contract will have to be taken over by the purchaser There are three boreholes at the main farmstead and eight earth dams evenly spread out over the entire property. All dams have a pretty setting, provide a focal point for bird life, and watering for both game and livestock. Several dams have hunting lofts. The outstanding topographical features are the river bed of the Omatako River and its gallery forest with thousands of trees, the southern half, which is sand-and pannetjiesveld with many trees and fodder bushes.

Game The dominant local large game species is kudu, and oryx. Smaller game consists of warthog, duiker, steenbuck, Damara dik dik and klipspringer. Large predators consist of cheetah and leopard. And the smaller are represented by jackal and rooikat. The bird life is excellent, due to the different types of habitat provided by the varied topography and the dams.

Location Situated approximately 230km north of Windhoek, 35 km due west of the turnoff from the tar road. Excellent surface road right up to the doorstep. Mount Etjo Safari Lodge is its western neighbour. This area is a natural stop and a very pretty setting. The entire area is a tourist attraction in its own right. Eco tourism would be a real option to look at.
