There were four M.A.I.N Causes

Nationalism (love my country) Militarism (military) Alliance (friends!) Imperialism (jerks) Nationalism (love my country)

Militarism Building up of strong armed forces and a powerful military. Before World War I tension and rivalry amongst European nations led European countries to expand their army and navy in preparation for war.

Alliances An agreement or promises to defend and help another country. In the early 1900’s, nations feared one another. Each nation was afraid another would invade or try to take over its territory. When an alliance is signed, those countries become known as Allies.

Imperialism   Imperialism is when a country takes over new lands or countries, and controls their government, economy, and culture.

Nationalism Strong pride in your country, and willing to defend it at any cost. .
