Do Now: Top of Page 18 The Boston Public Schools are considering making it mandatory for teachers to assign each of their classes one hour of homework each night. How will students feel about this? How will teachers feel about this?

“The Bloody Massacre” engraving by Paul Revere, 1770 What do you see in this image? Who appears to be the aggressors in this image? Whose perspective is the image coming from the Patriots from Boston or the British soldiers? How do you know? "The Bloody Massacre" engraving by Paul Revere, 1770

Activity You are going to analyze 2 documents today on the Boston Massacre: A source from the Patriot perspective. A source from the British Loyalist perspective. From these two sources your task will be to determine who was to blame for the Boston Massacre, the British soldiers or the crowd of colonists.

Your Goal For the first two sources I want you to summarize the events of March 5, 1770 from the perspective of the person in the document. I want you to answer the question: Whose perspective is this from: The British or the Patriots? What happened on March 5, 1770 according to the source? Who does this document blame for the Boston Massacre? What evidence does this document provide to support this? How might this source be biased? (prejudice in favor of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered to be unfair)

4 Corners I want you to go to the corner that corresponds with what you think about the following claim: The crowd of Bostonians was to blame for the Boston Massacre. When you get to the corner take 1 minute to discuss and come up with the best evidence to support your claim.

Bottom of Page 18 Answer the question: Did the Boston Massacre make it necessary for the American colonists to go to war with Great Britain? Why or Why not? Be sure to provide 1-2 pieces of evidence to support your claim.
