Agenda Turn in Incomplete and Codominance Homework Polygenic Notes Polygenic Activity

Polygenic Inheritance Notes Polygenic traits are traits that are controlled by more than one gene, i.e. height, weight, hair color, skin color (basically, anything that deals with size, shape and color). This allows for a wide range of physical traits. For example, if height was controlled by one gene A and if AA= 6 feet and Aa = 5 feet 7 inches and aa= 5 feet, then people would be one of three different heights. Since height is controlled by more than one gene, a wide range of heights is possible.

Polygenic Inheritance

Genetics and Eye Color Follow up Questions Genetics and Eye Color at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjBZaed9yzM (1:49) Follow up Questions Is eye color a trait controlled by a single gene as it is often taught in schools? Do you think skin color is a polygenic trait? Explain your reasoning, and be as specific as possible. What is an albino? What kind of eyes would they definitely NOT have? What is known about the melanin levels in people with blue eyes? How does polygenic inheritance violate Mendel's rules? Give examples of traits governed by polygenic inheritance.

Polygenic Inheritance Pigmentation Lab: You will work with a partner with this lab. You will need to flip a coin 6 times to determine the genotype of the skin color.
