The Regional Approach of the GABV Secretariat Paula Martin (Vancity & GABV)

GABV 2020 Outcomes The GABV aspires to “touch the lives of one billion people” by 2020 through: Business Development (more members) Profile Development (advocacy) Network Development (partnerships) Service Development Help members, share, learn and grow. Attract other banks and banking cooperatives. Profile values-based banking, shift perspective and build pressure. Leverage the capacities of network alliances. GABV Annual Meeting 2016

Regional Approach We will do that by increasingly strengthening our regional approach. To date we have three formal Regional Chapters: Europe, Latin America and North America and an Other Regions group. Europe 9 members Chair: Thomas Jorberg Rep: Christoph von Carlowitz North America 9 members Chair: Tamara Vrooman Rep: Paula Martin Other Regions 5 members Chair: Marcos Eguiguren Latin America 5 members Chair: Kurt Koenigsfest Rep: Carolina Benavides GABV Annual Meeting 2016

Regional Chapters GABV members meet annually in person to collaborate at regional levels. They strengthen connections and advance shared agendas to support the growth of the GABV and values-based banking in their geographic areas. GABV Regional Chapters act as roundtables to provide knowledge and perspective on substantive issues to the larger CEO group, programmes and Communities of Practice. Regional meetings offer banks an opportunity to host their peers and share their work. Leadership of each chapter is provided by the Board member responsible for the region. GABV Annual Meeting 2016

Regional Representatives First contact for members in the region. Connects with regional CEOs for updates on their bank (2-3 times each year) and identifies needs or suggestions for GABV action. Is responsible for finding new members and strategic partnerships in the region. Pays attention to relevant events or speaking opportunities and suggests a yearly agenda of those. Engages with the top 10 influencers or journalists in the region to make sure the GABV is on their agendas. What is the evolving role of the Regional Representatives in the GABV? How can Regional Representatives have more regular and valuable contacts with the GABV? What type of information should members share with the Regional Representative (and GABV Communications) to strengthen the global value of the GABV? How best do we connect and support those members not yet in a formalized region? How can more focus on a regional approach help the GABV and member banks? Networking with Member Banks and possible Strategic Partners in the region • Regularly (at least three times per year) gets in touch with Regional CEOs to get updates on each bank situation and gets needs or suggestion for GABV action • Is, generally speaking, the first Secretariat person responsible for developments in the region and the first contact person for banks in the area. • Scans the region for possible Strategic Partnership to propose the Advocacy and PR Manager or the ED. • Is responsible for getting new members in the region and is continuously looking for prospective partners, analyzes them with the support of the Secretariat and makes initial contacts with their top management in liaison with the ED Pays attention to relevant events or speaking opportunities and will suggest a yearly agenda of those places in which the GABV has to be present in the region. • Engages with the top ten influencers or journalist in the region to make sure the GABV is in their agendas GABV Annual Meeting 2016

Questions How can we use our Regional Representatives to have more regular and valuable contact with members and partners? What type if information should I, as a member/partner, share with Regional Representatives and the GABV to strengthen the global value of the GABV? GABV Annual Meeting 2016
