Journals of the House of Representatives Not to be confused with the Appendices… Record an outline of the business but not speeches Published initially in the Parliamentary Bulletin in an abridged form (votes in committee not recorded). Also published individually with all votes. Bound volumes for each Parliament Useful for locating details of older bills, petitions and papers presented Statistical information Parliamentary publications

Appendices to the Journals of the House of Representatives (AJHR) & Parliamentary Papers A collection of Parliamentary papers which are required, often by statute to be published and tabled in the House. Examples: Annual Reports of Govt. Depts. & Ministries, Election results, Government responses. Parliamentary Publications

AJHR & Parliamentary Papers Shoulder Numbers e.g. B6, E9. A number by which each paper can be identified. Consists of a letter (A-J) which identifies the category & a number. Parliamentary Publications

Changes to the AJHR’s From 1999 - Two sequences of papers Parliamentary Papers – include most of the papers with the numbers A-H e.g. Annual reports, budget papers, election results, reports of Royal Commissions & others. Appendices to the Journals – include all select committee reports (I papers) and a new series of Papers relating to the business of the House (J papers) e.g. Register of Pecuniary interests of Members Parliamentary Publications

Parliamentary papers From 1999 All papers with numbers A – H became Parliamentary Papers (now published annually) Select Committee reports (I) with a new series of J papers continue as the Appendices to the Journals Parliamentary Publications

Select Committee Reports Initially published as individual papers (I papers) Compendia are published each year in 3 volumes: Votes & Estimates Financial Reviews All other reports eg. bills, petitions, inquiries Not all reports are published in the compendia.
