Nationalism Extreme patriotism, usually with a superiority over other countries. Usually leads to wars for independence Usually develops from common culture, language, race, religion, political goals

Greek Revolt: 1821-1830 Part of Ottoman Empire, want independence Russia supported Greek church, other Europeans supported the plea for independence. 1827: British, French and Russian fleet destroy the Ottoman Navy, Greece gains independence in 1830.

France: 1830 Charles X tried to return to absolute monarchy. July Revolution, led by the commoners. Troops refuse to fire on the population, and Charles flees. Prince Louis-Philippe took rule and supported Monarchy

France: 1848 Louis-Philippe became unpopular because of oppressive techniques. Radicals & Liberals Unite Want Republic and Women’s Rights Louis-Napoleon named President, Monarchy gone Renames himself Napoleon III.
