Writing Writing is taught as a process. We focus our teaching and grading of both narrative and expository writing. Your child will grow as a writer by learning to use: Topic sentences Key details Closing sentences

Science Social Studies Health Describe how animals and plants are dependent on each other in a habitat. Describe interactions of Native Americans with the Spanish Human Body studies -bones -teeth -mouth -blood/heart -digestive system -respiratory system Compare the habitats in which plants and animals they live. -Garden -Polar -Desert -Pond/Ocean Describe the interactions of Native Americans with the Pilgrims Describe ways to prevent germs from spreading; in order to stay healthy. Animal life cycles Recognize that the United States started as 13 colonies, under the rule of Great Britain.

Weekly Homework Homework New packets can be accessed through ParentVUE each Friday Due the following Friday CKLA Reading Passages Read with your child Sign and return Take-home/homework folders must go home and come to school daily Homework Packet Includes: Math, Reading, and Spelling

1st Day of school * Parents are welcome on playground * Meet me on line 44 * First Bell Rings by 7:40 a.m. * Bring a snack (Please no peanuts) * Please have a lunch plan * Send your child with a labeled water bottle (Only Water) * Be sure I know how your child is going home

1st grade Ambassadors A 5th grade student has been assigned to help our class at the beginning and the end of the day. During morning drop off, ambassadors will be stationed at the playground gate to help walk first graders to their lines. They will help us with pack up and dismissal.

Donations Help Fund a Field Trip Donations are 100% tax deductible Go to website http://www.kyrene.org/ksdportal/taxcredit Book Club Orders Book Club Orders help increase the classroom library. Your teacher will periodically send book club flyers home. If you would like to order books your teacher will provide you with a classroom access code so that you can order books online.

Fundraiser – 2018 Read-a-thon The goal is to fundraise AND increase the love for reading in students Reading starts Wednesday, September 5th - Friday, September 14th Includes daily treats, exciting prizes, grade-level raffles and fun events! Prizes for ALL students who participate. No minimum $ amount required to participate 100% of money goes directly to help Brisas Only planned fundraiser this year Goal is to raise $30,000 to fund many school programs More information the week of Aug. 27th
