Is 186,426 divisible by both 3 and 9? Activator Is 186,426 divisible by both 3 and 9?

Today’s Objective Oct. 22, 2015 I will use my knowledge of divisibility rules to create questions based on our text using Blooms Taxonomy and sentence starters. I will also apply my knowledge of divisibility rules to complete exercises 1-5 from pages 82-83.

HW check and Monday check! Classwork Introduction of how to generate text-based questions Students will work together to generate questions based upon the text Numbered heads protocol Centers 1 Practice review 2 Exercise 1-5 practice HW check and Monday check!

Looking at our text, division hints. I will create a question/statement either using a verb from the list, or a sentence starter based upon the text. Can you list the ways that you could determine if a number is divisible by 2? Apply level 2 How could you determine if a number is divisible by 8? evaluate level 3

Oct. 22, 2015 “Day D” Page 82 The number 𝟐, 𝟖𝟑𝟖 is divisible by 𝟑 because 𝟑 is a factor of 𝟐, 𝟖𝟑𝟖. I know this because the sum of the digits is 𝟐𝟏, which is divisible by 𝟑. The number 𝟐, 𝟖𝟑𝟖 is not divisible by 𝟗 because 𝟐𝟏 is not divisible by 𝟗, and 𝟐, 𝟖𝟑𝟖 is not divisible by 𝟒 because the last two digits (𝟑𝟖) are not divisible by 𝟒.

Oct. 22, 2015 “Day D” Page 82 The number 𝟑𝟒, 𝟓𝟏𝟓 is divisible by 𝟑 and 𝟗 because both 𝟑 and 𝟗 are factors of 𝟑𝟒, 𝟓𝟏𝟓. I know this because the sum of the digits is 𝟏𝟖, and 𝟏𝟖 is divisible by both 𝟑 and 𝟗. The number 𝟑𝟒, 𝟓𝟏𝟓 is also divisible by 𝟓 because the unit digit is a 𝟓.

Page 82 Oct. 22, 2015 “Day D” The number 𝟏𝟎, 𝟓𝟑𝟒, 𝟑𝟒𝟏 is divisible by 𝟑 but not 𝟗. I know this because the sum of the digits is 𝟐𝟏, which is divisible by 𝟑 but not 𝟗. The number 𝟏𝟎, 𝟓𝟑𝟒, 𝟑𝟒𝟏 is not divisible by 𝟐 because it does not end with 𝟎, 𝟐, 𝟒, 𝟔, or 𝟖.

Page 83 Oct. 22, 2015 “Day D” The number 𝟒, 𝟑𝟐𝟎 is divisible by 𝟑 and 9. I know this because the sum of the digits is 𝟗, which is divisible by 𝟑 and 𝟗. The number 𝟒, 𝟑𝟐𝟎 is also divisible by 𝟏𝟎 because 𝟏𝟎 is a factor of 𝟒, 𝟑𝟐𝟎. I know this because the unit digit is 𝟎.

Page 83 Oct. 22, 2015 “Day D” The number 𝟔, 𝟐𝟒𝟎 is divisible by 𝟑 but not divisible by 𝟗. I know this because the sum of the digits is 𝟏𝟐, which is divisible by 𝟑 but not divisible by 𝟗. The number 𝟔, 𝟐𝟒𝟎 is divisible by 𝟖 because the last three digits (𝟐𝟒𝟎) is divisible by 𝟖.

Oct. 22, 2015 Tonight’s H.W.: Finish worksheet

Page 84 Oct. 22, 2015 “Day D” The number 𝟑𝟐, 𝟔𝟒𝟑 is divisible by both 𝟑 and 𝟗 because the sum of the digits is 𝟏𝟖, which is divisible by 𝟑 and 𝟗. The sum of the digits is divisible by 𝟑, and that’s how I know the number is divisible by 𝟑. The last 𝟐 digits are divisible by 𝟒, so the entire number is divisible by 𝟒. The number ends with a 𝟓 or 𝟎, so the entire number is divisible by 𝟓. The sum of the digits is divisible by 𝟗, so the entire number is divisible by 𝟗.
