Psst…have you heard the exciting news?

It’s No Pens Day Wednesday!

How will we do our work without a pen?! But what does that mean?! How will we do our work without a pen?!

Well… we don’t just learn by reading and writing…

We can also work and learn through speaking and listening!

But why are we doing this??

Research has shown that speaking and listening skills are important in helping us to learn! Good communication skills help us at school, college and work!

Have you done any speaking or listening today? Let’s think about it… Have you done any speaking or listening today? Have you… Students could be asked to indicate in a range of ways whether these are things they have used their communication for today – eg raising hand; standing up; saying so!

…greeted friends or family?

…learned something new?

…shared news?

…given or followed instructions?

…asked or answered a question

…had an argument with someone?

… or solved a problem?

Language is like the other things we learn – practice makes perfect! Good speaking and listening skills will really help with…

Learning Self confidence Job prospects Friendships Understanding

Today will be a ‘no pens’ day. We are going to focus on our speaking and listening skills… all day!

So what will we be doing? Lots of activities in our lessons will be all about speaking and listening. But there will be no writing!

At the end of the day, we want you to tell us what you liked and what was easy…

…and what you didn’t like, or what was too hard to do without pens!

Now enjoy your No Pens Day Wednesday!
