Making the Most of Your Life

Vocabulary PERSONALITY-the combination of characteristics that makes you different from every other person. SELF CONCEPT-the way you see yourself SELF ESTEEM-the value or importance you place on yourself POTENTIAL-the capabilities of becoming more than you are right now. PROCRASTINATION tendency to put off doing something until later.

Vocabulary PERSONAL GROWTH-involves learning and practicing new skills. COMPETENCE -means having the qualities and the skills needed to perform a task or participate fully in an activity. RESILIENT -able to recover from or adjust to change or misfortune. PERSEVERE -when necessary to work patiently to overcome challenges  

Notes 1. Your journey though life begins with understanding who you are right now! 2. You have your own strengths and weaknesses , needs and ways of expressing yourself. 3. There are 3 general categories that personality characteristics fall into:

Notes Emotional -happiness, sadness, love fear, anger however each person responds to them individually. Social -some people enjoy being with others, while others enjoy being alone. Intellectual -people have different strengths and weaknesses when it comes to the mind. Some are mathematic, while others are better with words.

Self Concept   Self concept is influenced by the experiences you have, by what people say to you, and by what you say to yourself. Being realistic about your self- concept is the most important thing in the end. Being honest about who you are and what matters to you. Self-concept influences your life in many different ways. It affects the way you feel about yourself, your relationships, the goals you set for yourself and your effectiveness in school and the workplace.

Self Esteem Self esteem has a strong influence on your behavior and well- being. When you feel good about yourself you have more confidence . Ways to build your self-esteem: Learn to accept praise Focus on your strengths Accept yourself as you are Learn from your mistakes Use your strengths to help others Take responsibilities for your own life.

Personal Growth Personal growth involves learning and practicing new skills. You are never too old to change and learn. You CAN have a positive effect on the world.

Competence Change requires developing or improving your competence in the area you want to improve in. When you become competent in the areas you desire, your confidence level rises. What are some characteristics of confident people?

Confident people … Self assurance -believe in themselves and stand up for what they believe. Self- control -use reason rather than emotions to decide what to do before making decisions of what to do and when to act. Reasonable risk taker -willing to take risk to achieve their goals but know their limit and when to draw the line. Positive self-concept and high self-esteem. Focus on the good and work to become better.
