Reading With Mr. Lebofsky

Why read? We read to gain information, to learn new things and gather new ideas. We read to understand and to increase our ability to communicate our thoughts, feelings, hopes and dreams.

Why Read? Maya Angelou on Dignity: Dignity - the word itself – has come to mean different things to different people, as many words do. It doesn’t just mean always being stiff and composed. It means belief in oneself, that one is worthy of the best. Dignity means that what I have to say is important, and I will say it when it is important for me to say it. Dignity means that I deserve the best treatment I can receive. And I have the responsibility to give the best treatment I can to other people Why Read? When we connect to others through reading we learn the meaning of dignity, determination, and achievement.

Why read? We read because reading is thinking and by forcing ourselves to think, we learn to dream…

In this class We will review strategies that help us comprehend the things we read. We will read fiction and non- fiction, including textbooks and articles. We will write in response to the things we read. Be prepared to discuss and share your ideas.
