SITEIMPROVE Today I will be discussing Siteimprove.. and all the exciting things it has to offer.

IT ALL STARTS WITH AN EMAIL As most things in UWS, it all starts with an email..

The email you receive from Siteimprove will be the Quality Assurance Report, which looks like this.

The Quality Assurance Report will quickly give you a snapshot of: 1 The Quality Assurance Report will quickly give you a snapshot of: 1. How many pages are in your site 2. How many broken links the site currently has 3. How many possible misspellings the site currently has

If you click on the HTML link, you will be directed to..

.. the Siteimprove Quality Assurance Status Report.

This is the area you should be concentrating on.

This link gives you the Page Title of the web page which contains the broken link.

Under the Page Title is the URL of the Broken Link.

Click on the ‘Show errors’ button, and this will take you to..

the web page which contains the Broken Link .. the web page which contains the Broken Link. The Broken Link will have a red frowny face next to it.

WHAT NOW? So, what now?

= FIX ME please Please fix any Broken Links by either removing or updating the link.

WHAT IF… But, what if..

The Quality Assurance report states that you indeed have broken links..

.. but when you go to the web page, you can’t find any of the red frowny faces.

If you scroll up to the top of the web page, click on the ‘Disable CSS’ button.

This will disable all the top level menu items and navigation panels that you would otherwise see at the top of your web pages.

If you scroll down the page, you should eventually come across..

.. a red frowny face to indicate where the broken link is located.

WHAT NOW? So, considering you don’t have access to update these links, what do you do now? Please contact your awesome Web Coordinator who will ensure that the broken link is fixed.

To check any potential misspellings on your web pages, click on the ‘Show errors’ button.

Red = Misspellings Yellow = Potential Misspellings Any words highlighted in red are misspellings, whereas words highlighted in yellow are only potential misspellings.

WHAT NOW? So, what do you do now? Go to the web page(s) with the misspellings and either remove or update the misspelt words.

THE RESULT? The result?

THE RESULT? You will have 0 broken links and 0 misspellings. What a beautiful web world that would be.

LOGGING IN TO SITEIMPROVE To log in to Siteimprove, click on the ‘Login to your Siteimprove control panel’ button.

At the top of your Siteimprove Control Panel, you will notice two large circles. The numbers within these circles indicates how many broken links and misspellings are currently on your site. To access the Broken Links or Misspellings Reports, simply click on the large number in the middle of the circle.

BROKEN LINK The report will be divided into 4 columns. The 1st column contains the URLs of the broken links.

PAGE The 2nd column contains the number of web pages the broken link can be found on.

PDF The 3rd link contains the number of PDFs the broken link is found on. If you hover your mouse over the broken link, you will be given an icon that will direct you to the web page which shows the red frowny face – indicating the location of the broken link. Please also fix these broken links and misspellings.

THE RESULT? The result? You will see a decline of broken links and misspellings in your History graph.
