ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS 6 Hello Middle School Ms. Mallory 2018-2019 COURSE SYLLABUS Course Description Welcome to Seward Middle School! I am so excited to be a part of your Middle School journey! This is my very first year as well, so we will be working together to help each other be successful! We will have several things happening this year, including an independent reading challenge! If your class reads the most pages, they get a special treat from Ms. M! If you have any questions, please come talk to me or have a parent email me. I am so excited to be here, and I know we are going to have a GREAT year! Ms. Mallory kmallory@kpbsd.k12.ak.us (907) 224-9032 Remind.com Code: @sms6ak Page 1, Option 3/4 Supplies An important part of middle school is developing effective organizational strategies and habits. A supply list is included on the 3rd page of this document. Please give this to parents and have them sign so I know they have read this syllabus Units of Study How can we change our community? How does literature affect the way we see they world? How can language affect the way we communicate? What tools do authors use to help us read better?

Class Expectations Late Work Grading Remind App Plagiarism Parent Plan “A MIND IS LIKE A PARACHUTE. IT DOESN’T WORK IF IT IS NOT OPEN.” – Frank Zappa Late work is accepted until the end of the unit, with a 10% deduction. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of their missing work (listed on PowerSchool, Canvas, and on their weekly GOLD sheet). If you have questions, please see me! Late Work TOTAL POINTS: Students are graded on a total points scale, meaning EVERY assignment is important. Students will receive a large amount of points for daily journals as well. Grading Remind App The code on the front of this page takes you to the “remind” website (download the app or go to remind.com). Parents, this is a GREAT way to communicate with me. I will send out messages about assignments or you can contact me directly there. Please join! CODE: @sms6ak Page 2, Option 2/4 Plagiarism Copying/cheating/plagiarizing will NOT be allowed. Any student who plagiarizes will receive a 0 for the assignment and will not be allowed to redo it. Parent Plan I will be initiating parent contact with 1-2 parents a day about how your student is doing in my class. Class Expectations BE PREPARED Come to class on time. This means being in your seat at the start time, focused and ready to learn. Come to class with the necessary supplies. BE RESPECTFUL Respect yourself and others. Respect our class time and our materials. DO YOUR BEST Be responsible for your learning; work hard and do your best. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
