1763-1772 Colonists become angry at Britain’s attempt to restrict their rights….So they
1772 - Committee of Correspondence -formed in Boston to organize protests against Britain
1773 - Boston Tea Party -Sons of Liberty dump 342 chests of tea into Massachusetts harbor to protest the Tea Act.
1774 Intolerable Acts Britain passes several laws to punish the colonists....... tensions increase, talk of war
1775 - King George is furious and declares the colonies in a state of rebellion. He sends General Gage to put the rebellion down.
1774 - First Continental Congress leaders met in Philadelphia to discuss possible Independence they demand King George III recognize their right to a representative government. ( Declaration of Resolves)
1775 - Lexington and Concord Gage decides to seize colonists’ military supplies. Paul Revere & William Dawes ride through the towns shouting, “the British are coming!” 70 minuteman show up to stop 750 British soldiers! Shots ring out as colonists are dispersing……8 dead, the war has begun! (by accident??)
