Welcome to the reception classes!! Becky

Settling In Home Visit Small groups start each day Stay for lunch from the first week. Week 1 home time 1:30 Week 2 and beyond 3:15 Full time from Monday 19th September Becky Home visit - info in pack, get to know chn, what they like, interests etc. Settling children very important part of the work we do – happy children are better learners. Small groups start from Monday 12th – starting dates also in your pack.

Routine of the Day Bring children into the classroom Guided activities and free flow play Group times Finish and collect from the classroom doors. Becky-Initially bring your child straight into the classroom; children self register please settle the children at an activity. When the children have settled in we will let you know and an adult will meet you at the door and bring chn in. Expect your child to settle, Most chn absolutely fine, if any problems/concerns we will discuss on an individual basis. Once settled chn will go straight to the carpet for register and a group time – Lit/num/phonics. When full time, finish at 3.15 – pick at your child’s classroom door. Please let us know if someone different is picking up.

Help your child to be ready for school Help them to manage coats, shoes, toilet Talking about school in a positive way Reading and talking with your child Peri Parents and carers are the primary educators of children – your positive attitude to your child’s learning is invaluable. Being independent will help your child get off to a flying start – managing their own coats and going to the toilet.

Clothing All weathers changeable Safe Old Uniform Labels Lost property Forest School Peri We want to go out in all weathers and children need to be warm and dry – Going to lunch – Across the road (coats) No long trailing clothes, jewellery, open toed shoes. Sensible shoes are vital for climbing Children will get dirty

Lunch Time Main school for lunchtime, in their first week early years staff will stay and then gradually phase out. Everyone can have a free school dinner Packed lunch Water Healthy Sharon Clark Designated midday meals staff for each class Sarah To begin with the midday meals staff have agreed to let you change your mind between school dinner /packed lunch weekly – after half term they need half a terms notice. Promote healthy eating we are a water only school. Please do not put anything containing nuts in your child’s packed lunch – we have children with severe allergies Your child’s class will have a designated midday meals carer who is part of the team run by our midday meals supervisor Sharon – they always pass on important information about your child, if they haven’t eaten if they fallen over or if they’ve been in trouble!

Parental Help Sharing experiences Trips/Forest School – volunteering Bank of regular volunteers Sarah We love parents to come in and share experiences and talk to the children. Diwali, new babies , pets, jobs etc Children very young so need high adult child ration on trips – new laws concerning safeguarding children means that for regular volunteers we need a Lewisham CRB check and we would like to build up a bank of parents who are willing to help out. CRB forms from office

Supporting your child at home Reading with your child Using reading writing and counting in real life Play with sounds Play with them and talk about absolutely anything! Wows! Becky Read every day – story book that chn change daily and once they have settled, they will bring home a reading scheme book to read to you. Comments in PACT book. I Spy, magnetic letters, chalk, bath crayons etc. Talk very important – talk about anything.

Communication Person to person Greet you and your child each morning After school better for discussion Informal learning evening in the first term Parent teacher interview after Christmas Printed/electronic PAT Folders Early years newsletter Letters re trips etc. Letters and Sounds booklet Classroom windows Website J.Buzz Becky Please check children's folders regularly all letters will be in there.
