“Victory In-Spite of Failure!” 1 Kings 8:17-19

…But, it was the building of the Temple that would be the culmination of King David’s accomplishments. This would be the ultimate of his success. To put it in modern terms, this would be the capstone of his LEGACY…

We all know what it is like to miss the accomplishments of our dreams…

Moses certainly thought this way… The burdens, heartaches, and disappointments this man endured are not fully comprehended except by God…

to better understand the standard by which God measures success Purpose: to better understand the standard by which God measures success

I God Measures by Our LONGINGS

This and like songs express the principle we are trying to learn better today…

I God Measures by Our LONINGS A. God Measures Us Now

Psalm 139 “O Lord, You have searched me and know me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O Lord, You know it all…”

I God Measures by Our LONGINGS A. God Measures Us Now B. God’s Ways Differ from Man’s

Success is measured purely by outward appearance from man’s perspective… Before any man, woman or young person is counted as a success they must first do what?

“57 Rules to Becoming a Success…”

1 Samuel 16:6-7 “Then it came about when they entered, that he looked to Eliab and thought, ‘Surely the Lord’s anointed is before Him.’ But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’”

II Worldly Priorities Will be REVERSED A. The First Will be Last

“Thus the last shall be first, and the first last.” Matthew 20:16 “Thus the last shall be first, and the first last.”

Sir Launfal… met a beggar… flipped a gold coin at him in disgust Sir Launfal… met a beggar… flipped a gold coin at him in disgust. The beggar refused… “Good given without love is far less than crust given by the heart of brothers.”

II Worldly Priorities Will be REVERSED A. The First Will be Last B. The Last Will be First

Wilbur Fields… Not impressive in appearance… but a saint of God with a heart of gold…

III The Test of Our HEARTS

Rubic’s Cube for the lazy… Helps illustrate the danger of this sermon…

III The Test of Our HEARTS A. What Are You Doing With Present Opportunities?

Mark 12:41-44 “And He sat down opposite the treasury, and began observing how the multitude were putting money into the treasury; and many rich people were putting in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins… ‘Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; for they all put in out of their surplus…’”

III The Test of Our HEARTS A. What Are You Doing With Present Opportunities? B. Application We Must Make

IV The Result of this MEASURE- MENT A. All Are on Absolutely Equal Ground B. Victory Possible for Failures

Summary and Conclusion: Have you failed in anything lately? Are you a failure? How many came this morning thinking you have little if anything to give but broken and lost opportunities? Has anyone come this morning grieving that you can do so little when you long to do so much for the Lord?...

A little girl wanted to buy her ailing mother a special gift… “Honey, your failure has brought richer joy than had you succeeded.”
