He joined the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee He joined the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Carmichael joined SNCC as a newly minted college graduate, using his eloquence and natural leadership skills to quickly be appointed field organizer for Lowndes County, Alabama.

Freedom Summer in 1964 In one year, Carmichael managed to raise the number of registered black voters from 70 to 2,600 300 more than the number of registered white voters in the county.

Stokely was tired of the non-violence approach and that it took to long. So he deiced to try his own approach

Stokely Carmichael led a group of young men into nearby businesses, demanding they shut down as they had when President Kennedy was killed in 1963. Carmichael urged people to remain calm, but the crowd grew.
