Endorsements An endorsement is a statement appearing on a certificate that identifies the specific subjects (at various grade levels) that the certificate holder is authorized to teach Will meet requirements for at least one HS and one MG endorsement. Endorsements (cont’d) Science and Social Science (9-12) Requires 32 hours of coursework, 12 hours in one of the designations and coursework in at least two other designations (see below). Must pass appropriate content test. Science designations: Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Space Science, Environmental Science, Physics Social Science designations: History, Psychology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Sociology/Anthropology No stipulation that courses must be “upper level”

Endorsements (cont’d) History and Science Majors You can teach all the Social Science or Sciences at the “general” level. To teach AP or honors for Social Science or Sciences outside your major: Have 12 hours in the respective designation(s) Pass the appropriate content test(s)

Testing No tests beyond Basic Skills or Test of Academic proficiency during first year of program Appropriate content-area test Must pass prior to student teaching (state law) APT: Grades 6-12 Typically taken during student teaching semester or at the same time content test is taken (for convenience and saves $).

Handout/Reminder Criminal Background Checks are being done on April 24 & 25 from 9 a.m. – noon and 12:30– 5 p.m. First come first serve. Be prepared to wait. Bring form (filled out)-provides ORI number for reporting $52 fee. Payment: Cash, Visa, MasterCard, or Money Order (no personal checks). Check student portal if already taken to see if we have results (CBC date cleared) If these dates aren’t convenient, you can go to Accurate Biometrics location (website is on form). Bring/fill out fingerprint form If you don’t hear that you are cleared within three weeks, contact us.
