6.6.1 Define the term census. (k) Census – the gathering of population data about every 5 or 10 years.

6.6.2 Defend a position on issues related to population dynamics. (i) An Aging Population Will Mean: more hospitals more retirement homes smaller workforce different consumers Higher dependency ratio (fewer taxpayers) more pensioners More younger people will probably mean: more schools more teachers more daycares higher dependency ratio different consumers

6.6.3 Assess the usefulness of census data for a stated purpose. (i) The census data can be used by government: Plan for new schools and hospitals. Plan for increase in pension needs. Adjust immigration policy. (allow more or less immigrants) Determine electoral boundaries The census data can be used by business: Track population changes in areas. Decide where to put new businesses. Decide what businesses to open. Market products to different age groups
