TANTRUMS Caren Rothstein, 2009
Sometimes, things don’t go the way you think they should.
You might feel confused, angry or sad.
You may feel like having a tantrum.
A tantrum is when you yell, stamp your feet, throw things or cry.
THAT IS NOT A GOOD CHOICE.
~Tantrums can hurt other people. ~Tantrums make other people feel frightened. ~You could get hurt when you have a tantrum. ~Other people can get hurt when you have a tantrum.
AND NOTHING WILL CHANGE.
A BETTER CHOICE IS TO STOP…
Go to a ‘COOL DOWN SPOT’ and BREATHE DEEPLY.
You can squeeze something soft or count to 10. You can ask for a hug.
When you feel calm you can use your words to talk.
~A tantrum is sometimes called a meltdown, or acting out ~A tantrum is sometimes called a meltdown, or acting out. It is the same thing.
Teachers, friends and family feel very, very sad when you have a tantrum.
Friends think tantrums are for babies.
Remember…IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO USE YOUR WORDS. Words can change bad feelings into good feelings.
WORDS CAN MAKE EVERYTHING OKAY.
