Figure 1 “Browning” Effect of Irisin in White Adipose Tissue Irisin is released from skeletal muscle, especially after exercise. Irisin triggers the differentiation of precursor cells present within the white adipose tissue into cells with brown adipocyte characteristics such as high abundance of uncoupling protein-1, multilocular fat droplets, and mitochondria.
