About my element Name: Ruthenium Element symbol: Ru Atomic number: 44

Definition Ruthenium is a chemical element with Ru as it’s symbol and atomic number 44. It’s a rare transition metal belonging to the platinum group of the periodic table.

Name origin It was named Ruthenium because “Ruthenia” is a Latin word meaning “Russia”, it’s named like that because it was found in Russia.

Discovery Ruthenium was discovered by Karl Karlovich Klaus, a Russian chemist. In 1844 while analyzing the residue of a sample of platinum ore obtained gform the ural mountains.

List of the uses Solar cells ( turn light energy into electrical energy) Electrical energy Severe wear Jewellery

Group Ruthenium is a rare metallic chemical element belonging to the platinum group metals (PGMs) and is considered a transitional metal. It tends to occur in platinum ores but can also be obtained as a by - product of nickel mining
