Do Good to those Who Offend You: David and Saul

Anger Management Did you ever have a fight with somebody or an argument? How did you feel after the fight? How did you resolve it?

David vs. Saul David was in a similar situation when king Saul was jealous of him because he was becoming more popular after he had killed Goliath and won many wars. Also Saul started feeling that the Lord was with David and started to leave him. So, Saul tried to kill David several times.

Saul’s search for David Saul led an army and went out to search for David to kill him. During the search Saul slept in the cave where David used to sleep and where David and his men used to hide themselves. David came into the cave and found Saul sleeping. It was easy for David to kill Saul at that time and remove his continuous threat to him.

The Bigger Man Yet, David did not do that because David was a man of God and his heart was loving and kind like the heart of God. Instead, David cut off the end of Saul’s cloak while he was sleeping without disturbing his sleep. When Saul woke up not knowing what happened while he was asleep, David ran after him when he went out of the cave and told him what he did. Saul wept because David did not harm him and he said to David: “You are more righteous than I; for you have repaid me good, whereas I have repaid you evil. The Lord said: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good”.

Love to Everyone Who are we striving to be like in this world? Lord Jesus Christ was cursed, humiliated, spit on, and crucified…did He ever lash out at any of those who persecuted him? It is necessary to show love to all people, not just your friends and family, but even those who speak bad about you. They just might be so surprised toward your attitude that they may even feel sorry the way Saul did.

Overcome Evil with Good There is a big difference in the way Christians handle situations and the way Non-Christians handle it. Anyone have an example?

Conclusion As children of God we should love all people even those who do not love us and those who want to harm us. When some body offends us we should return the offense with calm forgiveness and show that person that we still love him.
